Want To Adopt a Free Virtual Baby?

The new Internet craze is virtual human baby games - people go to websites, offering differently presented services of adopting, taking care and growing up a virtual human just like an online pet.

While this thing is a simulation only, it still might be interesting and useful. Similarly to school tasks, when pupils have to take care of an egg, while it hatches, or carry a flower pack everywhere they go, this activity can show to youth, and even some grown-ups, that having a children is a serious thing and teach them some responsibility. The virtual baby, like the real one, has to be fed, changed, put to bed, amused and loved.

However, we are speaking of simulation - it will never be the same as in the real life. Moreover, some people even see this game immoral, because it's not about virtual pet, or just some race simulation - it's about human! And how can responsibility be strengthened, if you can leave the virtual baby, when you get bored, and there's nothing bad about that. You can end the game whenever you want, and that's it - same as turning off the lights. While in the real life you cannot end it that simple... Finally, such games are just another source of profits for Internet companies, as people, who adopted virtual babies, spend definitely more time online, as they have to take care of the baby almost incessantly.

It got my thumbs up, because, to be honest.. I see it as a similar sort of thing to The Sims..
Sure, I can see why people would be upset by it, if they compare it to such things as the whole 'virtual pet' thing.. But really, you can just turn those off just as easily, does that make those immoral too?

lol- I am soooo over these virtual baby/pet type games. http://ww.lifelearning.org is my homeschool website and I have written to death about webkinz and the like. Not for me but kids love them.

I just love taking care of babies and to me it is something i will do all the time even though I am 11
I want to be a BABYsitter when i get older. Well that and because i will have to learn about it when i get older if you know what I mean, but any ways i just love kids and i evn have a little sister,brother and about 2 godsisters and 2 godbrothers

I truly do not see any sense in these game they really do not teach responsibility. In fact they do the opposite, teaching people that they can just give up when things get too frustrated.

Although I appreciate that it is an ideological world that provides us with the chance to experiment and consider different social outcomes, I fail to understand what a simulated concept will do for those people whom seem children as being 'simple' or 'easy'.

As was stated in the article, the likeness between real life and a simulation is quite different, although the parameters might be the same. Life is incomplete without this idea of 'surprise' and 'suddenness' that comes with most things.

Simulated programs cannot hope to expand upon the randomness of life itself. The parameters would not understand such a command as 'set child crying at random'. It needs specific times.
