Religion And Politics

Created: 2008-09-23 20:04:12
Both politics and religion are ways to guide or control people. Of course, they use different means, but the main aim is pretty much similar - to build better society, to take care of people and to create welfare.
So, should politics and religion help each other in that, or should they seek for their objectives separately?
If we look back in history, the union of these two never was a success. But both politics and religion are way different now, as well as society and its values.
The question is difficult, as it is hard to predict the outcome. Would the partnership with religion make politics more ethical and clean? Would the joint efforts will help society more?
Or maybe this idea of abolishing separation would decrease tolerance to different religions?
And would we like to go back in times, when church and state had collective treasury?
Moreover, would the state's increase of influence on believers through their church be a positive or negative phenomenon?

So tell us, finally - should politics and religion be more open to each other, or should we uphold the separation of church and state and don't mix government ruling with the impact of religion?

Personally, I think they should be kept separate.. Sure, way back in history they worked well hand-in-hand, but this was when society was much more closed off to other religions and views..

In this day and age, with the range of different views and religions being so broad within one society, it can create clashes and even more problems..

Saying 'God' is on your side in a war? That is just wrong, and ridiculous.. It is just a way to try and get some kind of justification from 'your people' to doing what they want to do..

Politics should be followed on the basis of just the politics, and Religion followed for other means if people chose to be religious..

For people who follow other religions, or who don't at all, shouldn't have decisions of the politicians that govern them be based upon some religion they do not follow.. Whether it is Christianity, Catholicism, Buddhism, Hindu, or any of the other religions out there..
