Nowadays mermaids are a part of children life - they play games with mermaid dolls, dress up in mermaid costumes, watch Little Mermaid movies and read fairy tales, wish for a Barbie mermaid as Christmas present... Anyway, could it be possible, that mermaids are not only the legend of the sea?

The most amazing fact about mermaids is that myths, tales and drawings about similar creatures appear in the cultures of almost all nations, living in regions near seas or oceans. Also some fairies about rivers' mermaids exists. Sometimes they are helpful and positive to people, and sometimes they harm travelers. But how could mythology be so similar all around the world? The logical answer could be - the mermaids, or aquatic creatures, looking like human-fish hybrid, are real. Or at least were real in ancient times.
