When trying to lose weight, there are those that say you have to change your diet and get some exercise. I would to know which one has the greatest impact.

The truth of the matter: it's hard to lose weight period. And if you are really overweight, there is probably some metabolic reason (G. Taubes, Good Calories Bad Calories). How exercise effects weight loss and how diet effects it probably involve different pathways. I've lost and gained back doing both. Doing intense Heavyhands aerobic exercise, starvation, and low glycemic index diets.

The public should accept the fact that neither diet or exercise is a "cure".

By all means, eat as healthy as you can or afford (that's another issue that is glossed over). Exercise, because it helps regardless where you start.
