Online poker industry revenue is estimated to reach $6.7 billion in 2010. That's more than double of what it was before the legislation was passed to restrict online gambling in the U.S.
The top 3 online poker websites combined average anywhere from 30,000 to 70,000 cash players at any given time.
The largest site - PokerStars.com - has dealt over 40 billion hands since its opening in 2001. That would take a regular player, playing 24 hours per day over 100,000 (one hundred thousand) years to accomplish.
With all that action, it's no surprise that a Congressional report from 2009 estimated that online gambling would generate over $50 billion in tax revenue over the course of 10 years if it is regulated and taxed.
That much money could:
*** Cover the entire CIA's budget for almost a decade
*** Keep the United States Postal Service running for almost 12 years
*** Pay all costs for the National Park Service for almost 25 years
*** Fund the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for almost 25 years
*** Build 2,500 full-size urban high schools
