Basque Nationalist Action Party

Created: 2008-09-16 16:22:53
Numerous Basque tribes, living in Iberian Peninsula, were already mentioned in Early Medieval sources. After many invasions and annexes throughout history, the majority of Basque society is still struggling for independence in twenty-first century.
Although the Basque have autonomy both in France, and in Spain, this is not enough for them. For many years Spain's biggest problem was ETA - Basque nationalist separatist organization, which is responsible for many violent acts. There were no hits recently, however, Spain authorities look very suspicious to any nationalist Basque organization.
The latest example - political party, named Basque Nationalist Action party, was banned and ordered to dissolve, because it is thought, that it might have links with ETA.

What do you think of Basque nationalism? Should this society get its long waited independence, or autonomy is enough for them? Is the prohibition of their political party is a proper way to suppress the nationalist movement, or this action will only renew disorders and encourage Basque sorties in Western Pyrenees again?
